Haston Gichaga

Assistant Social Worker

Haston Gichanga is an entrepreneur and dedicated volunteer who embodies the success of Life Skills Oasis, an organization he first joined at the age of three.

Haston was initially brought to Oasis by his parents, who sought to ensure he would be taught "how to be in a good manner" and avoid the crime and drug abuse prevalent in the slum environment. After high school, he pursued higher education at Jan College, where he studied Graphic Design and Computer. His college fees were paid by a Canadian sponsor he met directly through Life Skills Oasis.

For the last three years, Haston has successfully operated his own cyber business, which provides essential community services such as writing CVs, assisting with job applications, photocopying, and taking passport photos. He uses his business to provide resources and assistance to the kids and team at Oasis. Haston began formally volunteering at the organization in 2022, offering mentorship to younger children by giving a "word of encourage" or providing money for breakfast. He values the organization’s continuous focus on education, noting that his favorite part is that "you keep learning" through workshops on subjects like planting and building chairs.

Haston holds a qualification in Graphic Design and Computer from Jordan College.
